Food is at the center of our lives. With it we thrive, without it, we die. One of the most tragic contradictions of capitalism is that while food is abundant, many in the US and the world over live with food insecurity and die from starvation. The same financial gambling that caused the housing crisis is also responsible for rising food prices. When livelihoods are suddenly priced out of reach as they were in Egypt, revolt is inevitable and revolution possible. Join the International Socialist Organization as we take a hard look at how dangerous food production, inadequate distribution, and the anarchy of the financial market can be overthrown and replaced with a rational system that meets people's basic needs all over the world.

This week we will be having an educational discussion on the revolt in Libya and how the left in the U.S. should respond both to Gaddafi's regime and the threat of U.S. intervention.

The occupation of the state capitol building in Madison, WI has inspired a new generation of US workers about the possibilities of fighting back in the age of austerity. Taking cues from the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, the events in Wisconsin mark the end of the one-sided class war that has been responsible for the 30-year decline in wages, benefits, job security, and general living standards around the world. In the face of such rebellion the question still remains for some as to whether a systemic change to society is possible. Join us as we discuss how workers in the Middle East and the Midwest are showing the way to a better world.

Popular uprisings for greater democracy and relief from the economic crisis are shaking nations across North Africa and the Middle East. Inspired by the revolt that successfully overthrew the dictatorship in Tunisia, masses of people are taking to the streets of Egypt in defiance of the brutal Mubarak regime, long backed by the United States as a key ally.
